Student Services
The Australian Maritime and Fisheries Academy offers a wide range of courses for all types of students. Some courses are designed for students wishing to upgrade their current qualifications, while others are for the recreational fisher or members of the general public.
Each course identifies Entry Requirements that you must meet to be eligible for entry. AMFA offers maritime regulatory Certificate of Competency courses which may lead to qualifications from the Maritime Training Package and the issuance of qualifications by the maritime regulatory authority to determine their eligibility for examination and to ensure that all prerequisites and criteria (such as medicals and sea-time) are met.
The Academy delivers the educational component required to receive the relevant qualification. However, students should be aware that most Academy courses require an additional final examination by a maritime regulator approved by AMSA. For more information see our page on Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA)
The Academy has no authority to deal with any matters that are handled by the maritime regulator. These matters may include:
- calculation of sea time
- the processing of applications for maritime licences
- the fees charged
- the booking of final exams
Students should contact the maritime regulator directly to determine what they are required to do to obtain their maritime licences.
