Founded in 1997, the then Australian Fisheries Academy was established as an industry-managed education centre for the fishing and seafood industries.
In 2011, The Australian Fisheries Academy changed its name to include maritime in its trading name to become The Australian Maritime and Fisheries Academy (AMFA).The new name reflects the increased number of students, courses and demand AMFA has received from the maritime sector.
AMFA students now have wider career options than ever before in the areas of oil and gas. These industries have become a large employer of skilled maritime workers.
AMFA is the only industry owned and operated maritime, seafood and fishing industry development and training organisation in the Southern Hemisphere. Its role is to provide education, management, advisory and support services in all maritime and fisheries related development and training areas.
